Nordic Walking Ireland, Arthritis Ireland. As someone who suffers from psoriatic arthritis, I can tell you that the effects of this condition can be truly debilitating. The pain and stiffness in my joints can be so intense that it often feels as though I’m moving through quicksand. Every movement requires a conscious effort, and even simple tasks like getting dressed or brushing my teeth can be a painful ordeal.

What’s more, the fatigue associated with psoriatic arthritis can be overwhelming. It’s not just a feeling of being tired – it’s a deep, bone-weary exhaustion that makes it difficult to get through even the most basic activities of daily living. There are times when I feel like I could sleep for days and still wake up feeling exhausted.

And then there’s the inflammation. The joints that are affected by psoriatic arthritis can become swollen, red, and incredibly tender to the touch. The skin around the joint may also become hot and inflamed, adding to the discomfort and pain.

Living with psoriatic arthritis can feel like a constant battle, and there are days when it’s difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But I’m learning to manage my symptoms and find ways to cope with the pain and fatigue. Through medication, exercise, and self-care, I’m able to find moments of relief and regain some sense of control over my life.

It’s not always easy, but I’m determined to not let psoriatic arthritis define me. I refuse to let it steal my joy or prevent me from living a full and active life. With time, patience, and perseverance, I know that I can continue to adapt and thrive in spite of this condition.

I remember the day when Gillian Omen, our drama club leader, walked in with a twinkle in her eye and a big grin on her face. “I’ve got some exciting news, folks!” she exclaimed. “I’ve managed to land us all roles as extras in Michael Collins!” I couldn’t believe it. This was my chance to be a part of something big.

And it only got better from there. Gillian went on to become our agent, and she got us gigs in other films, including Saving Private Ryan. To prepare for my role in the opening battle sequence, I had to become a member of the FCA. It was tough, but the experience was invaluable.

But the real highlight of my career has been working as a sound recordist for some of the biggest names in the industry. I’ll never forget the day I met Tom Hanks, who was as kind and gracious as you’d expect. We even took a photo together, sitting on a tank on Curragh Cloe Beach in Wexford, Ireland.

And then there was the time I worked with Lukas Benhken, owner and producer of Sterling Light Productions. He was a true professional, and his experience in the industry was second to none. From NBC Gold to RTE Television, I’ve worked on some amazing projects with some fantastic people.

Looking back on my journey, I feel incredibly fortunate to have had these experiences. And who knows what the future holds? With the world of filmmaking always changing and evolving, there’s always a new adventure waiting just around the corner.
